As He is, So Are We in This World
1 John 4:17 – “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world.”
Because our love is perfected in Christ and His love in us, we can have boldness and confidence on the day of judgment. We know the Father and Jesus’ love toward us abounds so there will be no fear on judgment day. Notice the reasoning behind this – “because as He is, so are we in this world.” This is very interesting, encouraging, and faith-building. It does not say, as He was when He was in the world but as He is now in glory. Just as Jesus is in heaven we can be and are in this life in the here and now. If we could grasp, understand, envision this it would revolutionize our lives and the way we live here on earth and in this world.
How Jesus is Now
If believers can really by faith lay hold of this it will transform us, the church, and our impact on this world. We are going to list a number of things that displays the way Jesus is now and therefore what we’re to be in this world. By faith begin to see them worked out in your life. Jesus saw things taking place in the spiritual realm before they were manifest in life. “Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do: for what things soever He does, these also does the Son likewise” (John 5:17 and 19).
- Jesus is seated in heavenly places at the right hand of the Father. After His resurrection He ascended to the right hand of God the Father. Just before His ascension He told Mary, “I ascend unto My Father, and your Father; and to My God, and your God” (John 20:17). “After the Lord had spoken unto them, He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God” (Mark 16:19). He “is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2). How does this apply to us? We are here and He is there. Though we’re here in the flesh the Bible says we’re seated with Him at the Father’s right hand in heavenly places. Yes, one day we’ll be with Jesus physically in our glorified bodies but the scripture says we are seated with Him even now. Where He is we are also. No matter what’s going on in your life see yourself with Him in heavenly places at the right hand of God.
Ephesians 2:6-7 – “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come He might shew the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.”
- Jesus is far above every demonic force. He’s in heaven on the right hand of God far above all demonic activity. He is “far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come” (Ephesians 1:21). If Jesus is we are as well. You may be going through a spiritual battle and feel as if You are fighting off a host of devils. Oh, if we could just see ourselves seated in heavenly places with Christ far above it all. When you’re in the heat of the battle envision yourself in heaven overlooking all that’s going on. As you see yourself looking down on it al, instead of freaking out over the conflict that you’re in, you may even begin laughing. In contrast to feeling beat down and in despair, you’ll find yourself filled with joy. He has given us the same authority.
Luke 10:19-20 – “Behold, I give unto you power (authority) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Romans 16:20 – “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet.”
- Jesus is glorified. If Jesus is glorified then we will be too. Though we’re not glorified yet we will be and we are in the process of being glorified even now. We’re being transformed daily into His image. He has predestined us to be changed into His image and likeness. One day we’ll be completely like Him because we will see Him as He is in His glorified state (1 John 3:2). We are groaning within, waiting with anxious anticipation to be clothed with our heavenly tabernacle. This is the hope we have or should have. Let’s see ourselves as we will be on that day and as we do we’ll find ourselves being transformed more and more like the glorified Christ. The Holy Spirit is at work in us performing it even now.
Romans 8:29 – “For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 – “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 15:51-54 – “Behold, I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”
1 John 3:1-3 – “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure.”
- Jesus has complete dominion over everything. As King of kings and Lord of lords Jesus has dominion over all things. Adam handed the title deed to the earth over to Satan at the fall and Jesus purchased it back at Calvary (Revelation 5). If He has dominion then we do too. He restored it for us on Golgotha hill where He died and shed His blood on behalf of mankind. All who have accepted and surrendered to Him as Lord and Savior have dominion restored to them. However, we’re still in a fallen world and we must assert our authority over this earthly realm. Every enemy is under our feet and all we set our feet upon is ours for the taking.
Jesus’ dominion proclaimed:
1 Corinthians 15:27 – “For He hath put all things under His feet. But when He saith all things are put under Him, it is manifest that He is excepted, which did put all things under Him.”
Ephesians 1:22-23 – “And hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is His body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.’
Our dominion promised:
Hebrews 2:5-10 – “For unto the angels hath He not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? or the son of man that Thou visitest him? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; Thou crownedst him with glory and honor, and didst set him over the works of Thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. But we see Jesus, Who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became Him, for Whom are all things, and by Whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”
Deuteronomy 11:24 – “Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours.”
Joshua 1:3 and 5 – “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life.”
- Jesus is completely whole. Jesus was beaten and battered before the cross and scourged with a “cat o’ nine tails.” The cat o’ nine tails was a type of multi-tailed whip, whose lashes were made of leather and were tipped with metal, bone and barbs. Prior to this they thrust a crown of thorns on his head. They even plucked out His beard. “I gave My back to the smiters, and My cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not My face from shame and spitting” (Isaiah 50:6). But now, though we shall still see His scars, He is completely whole. He went through all this that we might be whole as well. Our physical healing was provided for in Christ’s atoning work on our behalf. He was also rejected that we might be accepted, bruised that we could receive inner healing of all our spiritual, emotional, and mental scars, bruises, and woundings.
Scripture for our physical healing:
Exodus 15:26 – “I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians (the world): For I am the Lord (Jehovah Rapha) that healeth thee.”
Psalm 91:10 – “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.”
Psalm 103:3 – “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases.”
Isaiah 53:3-6 – “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”
Jeremiah 30:17 – “For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord.”
1 Peter 2:24-25 – “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by Whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”
Divine Healing is a touch of future resurrection power:
Romans 8:23 – “And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”
Romans 8:11 – “But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you.”
Scripture for our inner healing:
Isaiah 53:5 – “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities.”
Bruising – Blood or bleeding under the skin due to trauma of any kind; typically black and blue at first, with color changes as healing progresses. A bruise rising in the skin revealing inward bleeding. Iniquities can apply to those things in life that beat us down.
Many have been beat down by the things of life, experiencing inward bruising and trauma. For some, it might be the situations and circumstances of life. For others, it may be things that have been spoken to and over us negatively beating us down and causing us to experience inward bruising of the soul and spirit. Still others, it could be things of our own making that have caused bruising emotionally, mentally, and to our spirit.
Jesus was beaten and “bruised for our iniquities.” He bled and was bruised inwardly, taking it upon Himself, in order that we might be healed completely and forever. We must simply apply His bruising to ourself for our inward healing. He came to set us free! Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to HEAL the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable (favorable) year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).
Psalm 51:17 – “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.”
Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
With this healing peace and joy are released to us mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you.”
John 16:33 – “These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me you might have peace.”
Ephesians 2:14 – “For He Himself is our peace!”
Romans 14:17 – “The kingdom of God is… righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”
1 John 1:4 – “And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.”
1 Peter 1:8 – “Whom having not seen, ye love; in Whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.”
Psalm 32:11 – “Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.”
Isaiah 35:10 – “The ransomed of the Lord will return, they will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.”
Isaiah 52:9 – “Break forth into joy, sing together – shout for joy together, ye waste places… for the Lord hath comforted His people.”
Isaiah 60:5a (NIV) – “Then you will look and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with joy.”
- Jesus was and is victorious over the world, the flesh, and the devil. The Bible says, Jesus was in all points tempted like as we are yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15). Most all sin falls under three categories: 1) The lust of the flesh. 2) The lust of the eyes. 3) The pride of life. Eve was tempted in these three areas as was Jesus in the wilderness and so are we. Jesus overcame these temptation and therefore we can as well. He set us the example and purchased our victory on Calvary’s cross. We must merely apply His victory to overcome. God’s plan and purpose for us is a victorious life. Do you desire victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil. Jesus has already provided it for you by Himself overcoming and by His sacrifice for you on Golgotha’s hill.
Examples of the categories sin falls under:
1 John 2:15-16 – “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”
Genesis 3:1-6 – “Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”
Matthew 4:1-11 – “Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to Him, he said, If Thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.Then the devil taketh Him up into the holy city, and setteth Him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto Him, If Thou be the Son of God, cast Thyself down: for it is written, He shall give His angels charge concerning Thee: and in their hands they shall bear Thee up, lest at any time Thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again, the devil taketh Him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto Him, All these things will I give Thee, if Thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth Him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto Him.”
Scriptures promising us victory:
Matthew 16:18-19 – “And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Luke 10:18-19 – “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power (authority) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Romans 8:37 – “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.”
1 Corinthians 15:57 – “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
2 Corinthians 2:14 – “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in every place.”
Colosians 2:15 – “When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display (spectacle) of them, having triumphed over them through the cross.”
1 John 4:4 – “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
1 John 5:4-5 – “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”
- Jesus was and is holy and righteous. Therefore, we are righteous and holy as well. Jesus paid the price for all our sins and transgressions on Calvary’s cross. When we accept and put our faith in Him our sins are washed away by His blood and we have His righteousness imputed to our account. We are justified and declared the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corithians 5:21). Praise the Lord! The Father looks on us and sees nothing but Jesus’ holiness and righteousness. You can’t get anymore righteous and holy than that. All our sins are cleansed past, present, and future. Whenever we fail, we need only to confess it to God and our sin is cleansed and washed away by His precious blood. Glory be to God!
Satan is the accuser of the brethren. He’s like a master prosecutor in a trial room or court of law. He brings all his evidence against us before the heavenly judge and says, see they are guilty and deserve judgment. Jesus is our advocate and defense attorney. He doesn’t argue our innocence but merely says, “Father, I paid for that when I was crucified and shed My blood on Calvary’s cross.” Father God throws down the gavel and says, “NOT GUILTY!” This gives us overcoming victory over all the accusations and attacks of the evil one. Hallelujah!
Isaiah 1:18 – “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Psalms 103:12 – “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.”
Romans 3:21-26 – “But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time His righteousness: that He might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”
Romans 5:9-11 – “Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by Whom we have now received the reconciliation.”
1 John 1:7 – “If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Revelation 12:10-11 – “Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb.”
